THE
ISLAND'S TEN
MOST ROMANTIC SPOTS
Lovers will find plenty of spots on the island of Martinique
that fan the flames of new love and rekindle the romance of couples
renewing their vows via an exotic island sojourn.
- Called the "Isle of Flowers," love will be in bloom along
with an incredible variety of anthuriums at MacIntosh Plantation
in the north.
- With tropical flowers everywhere, another botanical garden
worthy of a romantic stroll is Jardin de Balata. Here, visitors
thrill to the sight of more than a thousand species of plants,
trees and flowers nestled on the heights overlooking the capital
city of Fort-de-France.
- For nature-loving couples, we advise taking a hike. There's
an outstanding trail that links Precheur to the Pelee at Grande
Savane.
- The Pelee Volcano is a definite "must see." Hot springs
that almost reach boiling temperatures gush from the depths
of the Pelee Volcano, creating a sizzling atmosphere guaranteed
to add a spark to any relationship.
- Josephine and Napoleon were two of history's most famous
lovers and Empress Josephine is Martinique's most famous native
daughter. At the Pagerie Museum, lovers can walk through the
ruins of the house in which Josephine was born and relive
the passion of her one great love.
- Archaeology buffs will find the Departmental Museum fascinating.
It features pre-Columbian archeology, with more than 2,000
pieces that trace the history of Martinique's original Arawak
and Carib people.
- Let the thrill of gaming at the casinos in the Meridien
Hotel or Bateliere Plazza pave the way for an evening where
passions run hot.
- After mingling with the casino crowds, bring down the pace
with cocktails and a slow dance at one of the capital city's
clubs and cabarets.
- Stroll arm-in-arm through the colorful shopping district
of Fort-de-France and stop for an intimate lunch at one of
the many outdoor cafes.
- Head south to one of the sandy beaches on the island's
south shore and laze in the sun, side-by-side, oblivious to
everything but each other.
