LOCATION - Sint Maarten is located at 18N, 63W or 144 miles east of Puerto Rico. It is located in the Leeward Islands of the West Indies. It is 37 square miles and has a population of 21,900.

COMMUNICATION - Most major hotels offer fax services with optional fax hookups in guestrooms.

CREDIT CARDS - Credit cards are accepted by virtually every shop and restaurant, and most hotels.

CURRENCY - In St. Maarten it is the Antillean florin or guilder, but U.S. dollars are accepted everywhere.

DRINKING WATER - Drinkable water is distributed on the island by the water plants. This water is usually warm even if you turn the cold tap.

ELECTRICITY - Electrical appliances run at 110 volts in Sint Maarten.

TIME - Sint Maarten is on Atlantic standard time, 1 hour ahead of Eastern standard time and the same as Eastern daylight time.

WHAT TO WEAR - Choice of clothing should be casual and comfortable but neat. Swimming attire is not appreciated in hotel lobbies or for walking around town. At night dress remains somewhat informal, but jackets and shawls are recommended since casinos and restaurants can get a little chilly.
