Discovery Cruise nixes unlimited alcohol from Bahamas day cruise deal
A guest blog post from staff writer Silvana Ordonez:
If you’re planning to cruise with Discovery Cruise Line to Grand Bahama Island, you might want to have some cash ready for cocktails, if you drink, and for your island excursion.
The cruise line announced recently that unlimited alcoholic beverages were no longer part of the $79.99* one-day cruise deal to the tropical island. The changes took effect June 15.
The package however still includes an all-you-can-eat breakfast and dinner buffet.
Discovery Cruise spokeswoman Roberta Backus Turner said tipping the wait staff was highly recommended. The suggested tip is $2 per person for breakfast and $3 p.p. for dinner.
For a full gourmet meal upgrade, day cruisers can select the Grand Bahama Grill for an additional $25 each.
On board drink prices (taxes included) are: $3.75 for domestic beer; $4.50 for imported beer; $4.95 for well cocktails and $5.75 for premium cocktails, according to the cruise operator.
Upon arrival in Grand Bahama, there are a few options to get to Port Lucaya – the island’s main shopping strip: a shared cab-ride in a van at $10 roundtrip per person, or a private ride for $56 return per person. And no credit cards are accepted.
Another option is to purchase a $35 tour, offered by Discovery Cruise, which includes lunch, beach towels and transportation to Taino Beach Resort.
And remember parking at Port Everglades costs about $15 per day.
